Monte del Barco and Rosewood Resorts will develop deluxe hotel in Guanacaste

Rosewood Hotels and Resorts will operate the super deluxe resort in the Papagayo Gulf, Guanacaste.

PAPAGAYO GULF, Costa Rica—The Costa Rican company Monte del Barco S.A. signed an agreement with Rosewood Hotels & Resorts in order to develop a deluxe resort of 130 rooms in Guanacaste, at the world famous Papagayo Gulf. Monte del Barco will invest a total of $100 million in the construction of this new deluxe property. The American resort chain Rosewood Hotels & Resorts operates 18 hotels in 11 countries around the world like Mexico, Brazil, China, Cambodia and Laos.  Monte del Barco S.A. is a subsidiary of the “Fondo de Inversion de Desarrollo Inmobiliario Monte del Barco” that took control of the proyect in Culebra Bay in 2005. After the economic crisis of 2009 most of the demand of deluxe projects went into a stalemate and Monte del Barco also fell into a crisis. Now the company informed that will move forward with the resort project with the assistance of Dallas-based HKS.  The capital needed for the construction reaches 100 million dollars. Javier Chaves President of Aldesa, the company that administers Monte del Barco S.A., informed the Monte del Barco/Rosewood resort will position the area as a super deluxe destination in Guanacaste. The gulf already has top of the line resorts like Four Seasons and Hyatt Andaz. Guanacaste is considered the Costa Rican Riviera and the growth of Liberia International Airport benefits the opening of new resorts in the area. Airlines like Alaska Airlines, Southwest Airlines and British carrier Thomson Airways operate to the Guanacaste international airport since 2015.
